Outplacement and Career Transition in Norway
When restructuring or downsizing affects your employees in Norway, how you handle their departure matters. Legally, culturally and for your reputation as an employer. Norway is a small, transparent labour market with strong employment protection: terminations require objective grounds and a formal process, and severance agreements often include career transition support as a standard element.
I provide professional outplacement and career transition programs in English and Norwegian, helping your departing employees move confidently into their next role, while you handle the process correctly and with dignity.
Why offer outplacement in Norway?
It reduces legal risk. Norwegian employment protection is strict. Offering career transition support as part of a severance agreement makes agreements easier to reach, and significantly reduces the risk of disputes after termination.
It protects your employer brand. In a small market, how you treat people on their way out becomes known. It affects your ability to recruit, retain and do business in Norway afterwards.
It supports the people who stay. Colleagues watch how departing employees are treated. A dignified process maintains trust, morale and productivity in the remaining organisation.
It works. Structured career transition support shortens the path to new employment, which benefits the individual and often reduces the total cost of the transition for the employer.
What the program includes
Every program is tailored to the individual, but typically covers:
- Career mapping and clarification: skills, strengths, values and direction, supported by certified assessment tools where useful.
- The Norwegian job market: how recruitment actually works in Norway. Networks, application culture, LinkedIn, and what Norwegian employers look for. Especially valuable for international employees navigating an unfamiliar market.
- CV, application and LinkedIn: positioning and communicating professional value clearly, in Norwegian or English.
- Interview training: preparation, practice and feedback.
- Coaching through the transition: structured follow-up that maintains momentum, confidence and motivation until the new role is landed.
Programs are delivered individually, online or in person. For larger restructurings, I also deliver group programs combining workshops with individual sessions. An effective model when several employees are affected at the same workplace.
Who you are working with

My name is Kine Aasheim, founder of dinHR. I have worked in HR and leadership for more than 25 years, including seven years as HR Director at Visma, and I combine that operational HR experience with formal career guidance expertise:
- Certified career counselor, currently completing a master’s degree in career guidance
- Certified Business and NLP coach (MNFCN) and Master RIM facilitator
- Certified in assessment tools includingFairsight, Aon/cut-e (ability, skills and personality), Master OPTO, Master EASI and JTI
- Master’s degree in administration and leadership, bachelor’s degree in psychology
That combination matters: I know the employer’s side of restructuring, the legal process, the difficult conversations, the risk. And I am formally qualified to guide the individual through the career transition itself. You get both in one advisor, in English and Norwegian.
Outplacement as part of the termination process
For international companies, outplacement in Norway rarely stands alone. It usually connects to a larger process: selection criteria, consultation meetings, severance agreements and communication. I advise on the full process, and career transition support is often the element that makes a severance agreement land well for both parties.
